Trinity College’s €450 repeat exam fee has been scrapped

It was ridiculous to being with.

Trinity College announced today that it is scrapping the recently introduced €450 repeat exam fee.

Students protested earlier this month for the fees to return to normal, as many cannot afford to shell out nearly €500 to repeat an exam.

Dozens of students occupied the Dining Hall with the #TakeTrinityBack campaign. The protests were also supported by Social Democrats councillor Gary Gannon, and Solidarity-People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett.

The students occupied the Dining Hall for one day, until negotiations for meetings were agreed to. Some students were also removed by security guards.

Dr Patrick Prendergast made the announcement, saying: “I undertook that we would seriously consider alternative proposals, and we have done so.

“I look forward to continuing the dialogue with student representatives to find a solution to the issues confronting Irish higher education, taking account of both fairness to all students and the College’s financial position.”
