TV3 has commented on Sinead Desmond’s replacement for the first time

Hopefully we'll find out soon.

Who could it be?

Sinead Desmond made a shock departure in November 2017, when she left TV3 after over a decade due to an alleged gender pay gap row. It’s thought that she was on a different, less favourable contract, to her colleagues, including Mark Cagney and Alan Hughes.

Since her departure, people have been wondering who would fill her role. There are some obvious choices like Ciara Doherty who is already part of the line-up, and also Claire McKenna who features regularly as well.

TV3 has yet to disclose its plans for Sinead’s position but it’s just hinted that it could be someone new to the show. Bill Malone told press, at the launch of the TV3 schedule for 2018, that the team is on the hunt for new talent.

He told The Mirror:

“We’re in the middle of that so that is something that we’re looking at. We’re looking for talent. That could be anyone. Bring on new talent. We’ll see more TV3 talent appearing in different TV3 shows.”

This could also suggest that the early predictions for Newstalk presenter Sarah McInerney to take over might be true. She was the first person linked to the role after she quit her Newstalk show in November. She currently hosts The Sunday Show on TV3.
