Not a great way to start the weekend.

Met Éireann have issued two new weather warnings for all of Ireland, and it sounds like a pretty grim start to the weekend.

The warnings are both status yellow: one is for wind, the other is for rain. They begin at just after midnight and will last until 11.59pm on Saturday.

Under the rain warning, Met Éireann forecasters have said that heavy rain on Saturday will lead to accumulations of 30 to 50 mm, while some mountainous areas will exceed the limits.

Meanwhile, the wind warning will see south to southeast winds increasing to reach 55 to 60 km/h during Saturday morning – the strongest in the east of the country

As the day goes on, the winds will move west to northwest, increasing further to reach average speeds of 55 to 65 km/h with severe gusts of 90 to 110 km/h, possibly exceeding these limits.

The weather warnings follow the country-wide weather advisory for this Saturday, which was issued by Met Éireann on Thursday.

Forecasters warned that there was a potential for severe weather, and that “hazardous conditions may result from heavy rain, and possibly wind also.”

Meanwhile, Sunday is forecast to be a mostly dry day with a few showers on the coasts. Temperatures will range between 5C and 7C in the afternoon, with some light southerly breezes.

However, it’s going to be another cold night on Sunday, as the temperatures will drop to 0 in some parts of the country.
