Two schoolgirls were struck by a vehicle in County Armagh in what is believed to have been a hit and run.

The young girls were on their way to school when the incident occurred.

The teenagers were knocked down by a car as they made their walked to school at approximately 8am Thursday morning on the Loughgall Road in Portadown.

According to Belfast Live the driver is said to have been female and was driving a red or orange medium sized vehicle.

One of the girls sustained injuries caused by the alleged hit and run and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

It is believed that the driver continued to drive without stopping after colliding with the two schoolgirls and police are appealing for anyone with information that could help the case to come forward.

Speaking in an online post a Craigavon PSNI spokesperson said;

“This incident could very easily have ended in tragedy and although thankfully the injuries were minor in this case. It is completely incomprehensible how someone could drive on without stopping in this situation.”

Those who may have seen the collision or have any other additional information are asked to call the Portadown authorities and quote the case reference number ‘185 12/05/18’.
