A two-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after an alleged sexual assault in Australia.
The alleged incident is said to have happened int he town of Tennant Creek, located in Australia's Northern Territory.
A spokesperson for the Northern Territory Health Department told
ABC News that the toddler was flown to the Alice Springs Hospital in the Northern Territory on Friday for assessment.
She was later transported to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide on Saturday.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested and has been subsequently charged with sexually assaulting a child, according to the publication.
He will appear a the Alice Springs Local Court via video link from prison on April 19.
Police have said that they are not looking for any more suspects in relation to the alleged assault and have given no more information.
The mayor of Tennant Creek, Steve Edgington, branded the crime as "abhorrent" and said that the incident had prompted a meeting of local leaders.
He told
ABC:
"The alleged sexual assault of a toddler in Tennant Creek really was the straw that broke the camel's back in [town] today.
"The Aboriginal elders have banded together, they want to find solutions to preventing this from ever happening again."
