UCD to reclassify 170 on campus toilets as gender neutral

UCD is to reclassify 170 on campus toilets as gender neutral.

A number of changing cubicles will also be introduced at the university’s sports centre at Belfield to accommodate people who are transgender.

The change comes as UCD attempts to make its campus more inclusive and welcoming for transgender or gender fluid students and employees.

The Irish Times reports that students will also be permitted to edit their names on university documents and awards without the need for a gender recognition certificate.

Minister for Children Katherine Zappone called the initiative “a good day for equality.”

She took to Twitter to announce that she was looking forward to the change being implemented.

This comes after a selection of other Irish colleges introduced gender neutral facilities to accommodate transgender and gender fluid students.

DIT, IADT, and DCU have already reclassified some of their toilets as gender neutral.

Trinity College also announced recently that they were getting rid of the term ‘freshman’ to refer to first-year students joining the university.
