Variable speed limits to be introduced on M50

If you use the M50 on a regular basis, this is information you need to know.

The Minister for Transport, Paschal Donohue, confirmed on RTÉ’s Prime Time this week that variable speed limits are going to be introduced on the motorway in Dublin.

The scheme, which will take approximately three years to implement, will see speed limits being adjusted on certain sections of the motorway dependent on the volume of traffic.

The reduction in speed and control of traffic flow is reportedly aimed at preventing collisions on the road.

At the moment, the Minister said he is not keen to bring in additional tolls on the M50 as there is a lack of public transport alternatives.
