Things seem to be looking up for her return to Ireland soon.
Vicky Phelan has shared that she is looking forward to returning home, after experiencing a number of side-effects as a result of her treatment.
The Irish cervical cancer campaigner has been receiving care as part of a trial in the US. Over the past few weeks, she’s been dealing with Bell’s Palsy, vomiting and nausea.
Last week, she said that the side-effects were making her rethink the clinical trials.
Thankfully, she appears to have improved and shared that she is able to get excited about returning home.
In a post on Instagram, she shared that she had enough strength to go out and enjoy a walk.
“Today was the first day that I had the energy to go outside for a proper walk down to the river since I came home from hospital last Tuesday,” she wrote. “And oh my God it felt soooo good to get out and get some fresh air. It also helped that it was a beautiful evening and the humidity was low.”

Phelan also updated her followers on her side-effects.
“I had my treatment on Friday and spent most of the weekend in bed sleeping and trying to remain horizontal in order to keep the vomiting at bay. It worked!”
She has booked herself in for acupuncture in an attempt to improve her nausea and Bell’s Palsy.
Crucially, Phelan shared that as her condition improves, she can “finally get excited” about returning to Ireland.
“I can now FINALLY get excited about going home in a little over 2 WEEKS!!!!” she wrote. “‘All that I have left before I board that flight to Dublin is a CT scan to see how my tumours look.”
The campaigner also thanked all her followers for supporting her over the past few weeks.
