Cork grooms-to-be top the league of big spenders on engagement rings, with more men in the Rebel County dropping up to €3,500 on a sparkler than anywhere else in Ireland.
The Leeside lovers were closely followed by Dublin men, who spend an average €2,149 on the diamond, Galway guys, who blow an average €1,449 on the ring and Limerick lads who spend around €1,199.
According to a survey by Littlewoods, Westmeath, on average, spend the least on engagement rings, believing that eternal love should cost no more than €729. Next comes Cavan €899, Monaghan €1,149 and Sligo €1,849. However, couples from these regions also devote a greater proportion of their wedding budget to home building than anywhere else.
The top five items which Irish women regard as more important than an expensive engagement ring are:
- Deposit on a new home
- A new kitchen
- Soft furnishing including three piece suites
- Large comfortable beds
- Wide screen TVs and household equipment
