Trine Jensen-Burke

There’s a baby boom happening in the Swedish royal family these days – and addicted that we are to cute royal babies, let’s just say this latest little arrival got our ovaries in a frenzy.

Last night at 8.28pm local time, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden gave birth to her second child at Stockholm’s Karolinska University Hospital – a boy. And only a few hours ago, The Swedish Royal Court revealed the newborn’s name:

Prince Oscar Carl Olof, Duke of Skåne.

38-year-old Victoria and her husband, Prince Daniel, 42, are from before parents to 4-year-old Estelle, who is said to have been very excited about the prospect of a brand new brother or sister.

The court added that Victoria’s husband, Prince Daniel, was at the hospital during the entire birth, and it was the proud new father-of-two himself who met the press at Karolinska University Hospital last night and could confirm that his newborn son was born weighing eight pounds and measuring 22 inches long, and that mother and son were both doing great.

Prince Daniel explained how they had kept the sex of their baby a surprise, and shared his overwhelming joy at the news that his wife had given birth to a boy. The proud dad could also reveal how he had tears streaming down his face when his child was born – just as he had done during the birth of Estelle.

‘Everyone is obviously very happy,’ Prince Daniel said, according to Expressen. ‘I haven’t had time to feel yet how it feels to be a father of two, but it obviously feels good.’

He then added: ‘Estelle is of course really enthusiastic and happy about being a big sister.’

Prince Oscar Carl Olof is now third in line to the Swedish throne, after his mother and sister.
