Watch These Girls React To Being Paid Less Than Boys For Doing The Same Chores

Trine Jensen-Burke

Being a woman and also being the mother of a daughter – and a son – I find it extremely important to do my bit in making sure they grow up knowing that men and women, different as we may be in appearances, interest and even biology, are also of absolute equal value and importance.

This becomes even more important when you realize we still – in 2016 – live in a world where men are making a lot more money than women – even when they are doing the exact same job and are in the exact same employment position.

Enraging, isn’t it?

And yet so very few are speaking up about this incredible injustice.

Which is why this video is even more heartwarming, when you realize that gender wage gaps are so intuitively wrong that even kids can see it’s straight up baloney.

In the video, which was released by banking company ANZ, boys and girls are shown performing the same household chores. Afterward, the boys get paid more than the girls — a reality that most women all over the world have to endure.

The way the girls react? It’s pretty much all women:

On average, women in the US make only 79 cents for every dollar a man makes – a gap that hasn’t closed closed much in the past 20 years. And things are not looking a lot better on our side of the pond either.  The date of Equal Pay Day — April 12 — is meant to symbolize how far into the year US women have to work to make what men earned in the previous year.

USA Today points out that the metaphorical date doesn’t even pertain to all women. For Latina women, “Equal Pay Day” isn’t until Nov. 1, while African American women don’t earn as much as their male counterparts until Aug. 23. and Native American women have to work until Sept. 13.

Yikes. We have a lot of work to do, guys!
