‘We Have Nowhere to Go’: Pregnant Mum Appeals Eviction Notice

Katie Mythen-Lynch

A County Laois mum fears she will be made homeless just days after giving birth after the bank ordered her to leave her rented house.

Abbeyleix mother-of-five Julie Brennan (32) says that the business that owns the property went into receivership last year and the house is being repossessed by Bank of Ireland.

The family, who have lived in the three-bedroom property since 2014, say they pay “€500 a month and have never been late with the rent.”

Ms Brennan, who is due to deliver her sixth baby on February 28 by C-section, and her husband, a Laois County Council employee, have now been asked to vacate the property by March 4 – just days after she gives birth.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, she said: “My situation is worse now. I got a letter last week to say I’ve got 56 days notice and I’m due a baby in 40 days.

“It’s terrible. There are so many tenants in the same situation. There is nowhere to rent in Abbeyleix.

“I have been searching all day every day and the prices are through the roof. We have nowhere to go.

“I haven’t got the energy for it. I’ve got children now who are getting sick with stress and worry and I’ve also
got bronchitis.

Julie, who appeared on the TV3 programme Evicted at Christmas, added: “I can’t go on the housing list because my husband is working full-time and I don’t meet the requirements, and I don’t qualify for rent allowance either.”

More than 17,000 houses are currently being repossessed in Ireland. If you are in a similar situation to Julie and her family, get in touch by emailing [email protected].
