And the cold weather is set to continue this week after the frosty weekend, which saw heavy snowfalls and temperatures of -8C in some areas.
Wednesday will be a cold, windy and very showery day. The rainfall will be widespread, with some falling as hail or sleet.
There will be a few bright spells - but it'll still be very cold.
With an added wind chill effect, maximum temperatures will reach 4C or 5C. It will reach 7C or 8C along the southern fringes.
It'll be very windy with some clear spells overnight, although there will be scattered showers (some of them wintry), especially over high ground.
Temperatures will reach a minimum off 0C to 4C, with slight frost in some areas.
Meanwhile, Thursday will be cold and very windy with a mix of sunny spells and showers.
Some of the rain will be heavy, or may fall as hail, with a continuing risk of thunder.
Wintry showers of sleet are likely, with a risk of hill snow, and maximum temperatures of 4C to 8C.
It'll be a cold, frosty night with icy patches - especially in the midlands, east and north.
