Have that BBQ ready to go, lads.

This Sunday is expected to be the hottest day of the year with temperatures hitting the mid 20s throughout the country.

Earlier in the week, Met Éireann confirmed that a “tropical airmass” was set to hit Ireland, bringing with it warm and dry weather and good sunshine, and it looks like that still stands.

The weekend will kick off with some decent weather across Leinster and Munster with some sunny spells and temperatures of 18-23 degrees expected across Friday and Saturday.

On Sunday, sunny spells and forecasts of 20-26 degrees are expected in Leinster, Munster and East Ulster, according to Met Éireann.

In Western counties, slightly cooler temperatures of 16-21 degrees are in the forecast.

Speaking ahead of this weekend, meteorologist Gerry Murphy said: “Sunday looks like being the warmest day of the year so far with temperatures reaching between 20 and 26 degrees – 25 or 26 degrees in parts of the eastern half of the country.”

He added that while the weather will be dry throughout the day, there may be some showers in the evening.

Monday will also be largely dry with sunny spells, though it will be a cooler, fresher day with temperatures between 15 to 20 degrees.

Definitely enjoy it while it lasts because Met Éireann have predicted cooler temperatures and unsettled weather next week.
