Met Éireann say more wintry conditions are going to hit us over the weekend

Olivia Hayes

Wrap yourselves up.

While today and tomorrow we’re going to see rain and wind, it looks like it’s the weekend we should be worried about.

“Today will be misty and mostly cloudy with occasional light rain and drizzle. Afternoon temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees, but just 3 to 5 degrees in east Ulster, in light to moderate west to northwest breezes.”

According to Met Éireann, temperatures will drop and showers will possibly turn wintry.

The weather forecaster said: “On Saturday rain will spread to all areas together with strong southwest winds. Blustery showers will follow later. Temperatures in the morning will be 9 or 10 degrees, but it will turn colder during the afternoon and evening with showers possibly turning wintry in the north.

“Saturday night is looking windy and potentially very windy with showers of rain, hail and sleet in strong and gusty northwest winds with gales likely along the coast.”

On Sunday, we’re going to see strong and gusty winds, but the sun will peep its head out from time to time.

“It looks like Sunday will start windy with ongoing strong and gusty northwest winds. Wintry showers will continue in the north and northwest but further south it will be mainly dry with sunny spells.

“Afternoon temperatures of just 4 to 7 degrees with and added wind chill. Winds are expected to moderate towards evening. On Sunday night winds will ease further and it will turn cold under clear skies with a widespread sharp frost and possibly ice on roads.”
