Widespread frost and icy roads expected as temperatures to plummet

Orlaith Condon

Things are set to get very cold over the next week.

The weather took a noticeable turn for the worst this week, with temperatures dropping into single-figures and plenty of rain to keep us all indoors.

Met Eireann is now warning that the bad weather is set to continue with worse conditions expected this weekend.

They’re warning that roads could become dangerously icy in parts as temperatures are expected to drop below zero.

While temperatures are expected to remain between 5 to 8 degrees today, frost is expected to develop tonight with icy patches to develop on untreated surfaces as the weather drops to as cold as -1 degrees.

Tomorrow is expected to remain frosty with the public being warned to remain cautious of icy stretches on many roads.

Heading into the weekend, Saturday will be fairly wet with temperatures reaching 6 to 7 degrees, however, that rain will mostly clear overnight.

Sunday will again be very frosty until mid-morning, with the odd shower expected in parts and widespread frost to again develop overnight.
