The programme focuses not only on the hours of training that go into a qualification campaign but it also highlights the everyday lives of the athletes.

One of the standout scenes of the series is the moment that soon-to-be five-time Olympian Robert Heffernan brings his newborn baby girl home from the hospital.

The father-of-three, who is married to retired international sprinter Marian, will be hoping to build on his success at the 2013 World Championships where he won gold.

But, as he says in the above clip, his family are number one: “People go on about sport and stuff, you know, but this is better than any medal. It’s just a lovely feeling.”

Tune into RTÉ2 at 8.30pm tonight to catch the first episode.
