Crowds have been gathering since Thursday 16 April to stake out a prime position for when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s second child is born.

The Duchess’ rumoured due date was the 25th April and she is expected to be admitted to the Lindo wing, where she gave birth to Prince George on 22 July in 2013, in the next few days.

There were fears that a superbug had infected a surgical ward at St. Mary’s Hospital across the road from the Lindo wing. A spokesperson told the Independent:

“The ward has been closed, what that actually means is no new admissions are coming on to the ward, patients are still being treated.”

“The ward is due to be reopened early next week pending a deep clean, after which we hope to return to business as usual.”

The public, it seems, remain convinced that the newest addition to the royal family with be a girl, as Ladbrokes release the current stats on the royal baby name with girls names dominating the betting.

The bookies have Alice at 5/4, closely followed by Elizabeth at 6/1. While Arthur is the most popular boy’s name at 8/1.
