Women are now proposing to themselves as a symbol of independence and self-love

It’s getting very popular.

Ever heard of the Self Love Pinky Ring? Well, it’s a new trend sweeping the internet that celebrates women’s independence and self-love.

Want to get engaged but don’t have a significant other? No problem. We should probably all heed the sophisticated and profound lyrics of The Pussycat Dolls popular tune Buttons:

“I don’t need a man to make it happen
I get off being free
I don’t need a man to make me feel good
I get off doing my thing
I don’t need a ring around my finger
To make me feel complete”

And maybe in light of this, do our own damn proposing – to ourselves.

The concept was invented by an American company by the name of Fred and Far. The owner of the company described how it came about saying:

“By the beginning of 2015, I had hit every milestone I had ever dreamed of: a great career, husband, kids, a home. And yet, I was lost, unhappy, and disconnected from my true, authentic self due to a profound lack of self love and self care. I desperately needed a bold, beautiful daily reminder to choose, honor and remember myself. So I created one.”

She created a triangle shaped pinky ring as it is a symbol of divine femininity (“look down and you’ll understand why”, she states!) and within a month felt more positive and self-assured for wearing this daily reminder.

The rings are made of 14k yellow, white or rose gold and in all honesty, while the sceptic in me can’t quite see me proposing to myself any day soon, I certainly think it’s a lovely reminder to just be a little less hard on yourself.

Plus, the rings are stunning!
