First children were more or less banned from supermarkets.
Meaning shopping for food for one-parent families around Ireland became increasingly hard, something Karen Kiernan, CEO of One Family Ireland, could confirm.
Kiernan explained to Herfamily.ie they were getting calls from people who were worried about how they were going to be able to shop for food during this time.
“There is no denying that this is making life extremely difficult for many people parenting alone as they must bring their children everywhere with them in order to keep them safe.”
And now, that we are officially entering stage one of Ireland’s coronavirus lockdown exit, Woodie’s DIY, who are due to open all their stores on Monday, have announced that all children under the age of 16 will be banned from entering their stores.
The hardware retailer says staff are worried that social distancing will be harder to achieve if children are let in.
Taking to social media to announce the news, the chain said: “The safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority.
We’re delighted to be reopening our stores on Monday. The safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority so please take on board these measures and follow the direction of our colleagues when shopping with us. #WellMakeItTogether #WereAllHomemakers pic.twitter.com/PwiwUYhDLl

“For now those under-16 are not permitted in our stores, as our colleagues have expressed concerns that social distancing is much harder to adhere to with children in our stores.
“As always in these uncertain times, we are listening to that feedback.
“We value all of our customers and do not want anyone to feel excluded, so would encourage you to contact us via woodies.ie/contacts and we will arrange a way for you to shop with us.
“We really appreciate your patience and understanding in these difficult times.”
