Reporting anti-social behaviour on the Luas just got a whole lot easier

Louise Carroll

With oodles of us hopping on the Luas so often, you might be glad to hear that there’s a novel little tactic to nip anti-social behaviour in the bud.

If you’re on the Luas and you happen to witness any hostile or unlawful behaviour you can now report it by text – all you need to do is text LUAS to 51444.

Type in the tram number plus the location and whatever information you need to get across and security services will be able to rectify any bad behaviour.

The Luas operator Transdev announced the new service today after passengers recommended a discreet and simple way of reporting any incidents would be very handy indeed. The service is now to be tried out over the next six months.

Referring to anti-social behaviour, CEO of the National Transport Authority, Anne Graham said the goal is to ensure people have an “easy and effective way of reporting it.”

“This new service means that Luas staff can be made aware of these incidents and can respond to them quicker than ever, so that journeys can be even safer and more pleasant for everybody.”

Communications Manager for Transdev, Dervla Brophy said,

“Luas is a safe and punctual and reliable tram service which Dublin has come to love, but we are always aiming to improve passenger satisfaction with the service and we believe reporting incidents of anti-social behaviour by text – in addition to the Locall number, email and Twitter – will improve the overall customer experience.”

If it has passengers feeling safer during their travels, no doubt it will do just that.
