Bad-ass women we admire: The woman who gave birth in a moving car

Let's hear it for the girls

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Only a woman could scramble eggs and tie a school tie simultaneously; wipe a face while texting the child minder; plan a strategy meeting at work while singing the Frozen soundtrack in the car.

As women, we do incredible things every day but sometimes, we’re called to take on something truly exceptional. In honour of International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8th, this week we’ll be celebrating women who rose to a unique challenge, first up:

The woman who gave birth in the car

First-time mother Jennifer Russell was on the way to the birthing centre when her waters broke. 15 minutes later she gave birth to her baby girl, Willow, in the front seat of the moving car, as her shocked husband Zachary managed to film the whole thing.

This (slightly graphic) video shows how quick-thinking Jennifer managed to ease her baby up onto her chest and unwrap the cord from her daughter’s neck before calmly calling 911 to say “I just had a baby in the car,”
