The couple has four children.

Brendan chats to HerFamily about parenting back when his children were young, in comparison to nowadays.

Brendan Gleeson is possibly one of the nicest men in the industry. I got to chat with him earlier this week ahead of the release of his new movie Paddington 2.

The movie is the perfect balance of humour and action for children, while still being very appealing for adults.

Brendan joined the second installment of the popular movie as they embarked on a new chapter in Paddington’s life with the Brown family in London.

He plays Knuckles McGinty, or Nuckle’s as he’s inaccurately referred to in the movie.

Brendan has four sons with his wife Mary, two of whom are also well known in the world of Hollywood, Domhnall and Brian. We spoke about what kind of a parent he was when the boys are younger and he agreed that himself and Mary would swap playing good cop/bad cop.

Speaking about the balance between parents, he said:

“We swapped around. You always have to swap around. You don’t want just one doing all the hard bits.”

He went on to talk about the difference of parenting nowadays to when he raised the boys.

“It’s interesting because parenting is different now. The way men and women are working and there’s a lot less regularity. I remember the times I could spend with them, there was loads of it. So you have to kind of balance whatever happens.”

We also spoke about In Bruges, as it’s approaching its 10th anniversary. When Colin Farrell was asked recently what his favourite memory of the movie was, he said working with Brendan.

So, I asked Brendan the same question and he said the same. He reminisced about the first few days of filming and the fun he had with Colin. He also said that he would definitely be up for a reunion or a reboot of some form and said he would work again with Colin in a heartbeat.

Here’s hoping they join forces again.

In the meantime, we’re lucky enough to have Brendan on board for Paddington 2, which has all the perfect elements for a light hearted adorable movie.
