Parenting expert explains 'mirror' technique used by Kate Middleton at Coronation

"Kate could be seen keeping a very subtle eye on Louis during the ceremony"

Body language experts have explained an effective parenting style that Kate Middleton used to keep her youngest child, Louis, in line at the King’s Coronation last weekend.

The Princess of Wales was in attendance with all three of her children at the Coronation of King Charles - an event watched by millions across the globe.

Five-year-old Louis is well-known for pulling faces and having a little dance while out and about at royal events, but was on his best behaviour for the UK event of the year.

Body language expert Judi James told The Sun: "Kate could be seen keeping a very subtle eye on Louis during the ceremony, and offering him motivational ‘reward’ touches of affection when he did something right.

“William and Kate showed they clearly understand the need for all their children to learn to enjoy royal events rather than to dread them by seeing them as a chore, bore, or challenge to get through.”

The technique is described as a type of ‘mirroring’, which reflects good behaviour with positive rewards - rather than giving out to a child who has done something wrong.

This can include a reward as simple as touches of affection or a smile to acknowledge their good behaviour.

According to enlivenminds.org, when mirroring, “parents consciously or subconsciously reflect or “mirror” the emotions and feelings or aspirations of the child, which has the effect of validating, accepting, or showing love toward that child”.
