Mum life – my son vomited on himself on our way out the door this morning

Melissa Carton

Why is it always when you’re in a hurry that disaster strikes?

This morning I woke up late so time was already much more constricted than I wanted it to be.

As I was running around trying to get my bits together for work and pull out my son’s uniform from the dryer he emerges from his bedroom completely covered in vomit.

It was then that I realised that I would not be starting today off with any sort of ‘Friday Feels’.

Still half asleep and not even dressed all I could think was ‘why today?’.

Suddenly instead of getting myself out the door I was cleaning him up and paying so little attention to myself that it wasn’t until I was most of the way to work that I realised that I had a stain on my jeans. I had accidentally pulled them out of the wash basket instead of the clean basket. Fantastic.

Luckily my husband was working from home today which meant I didn’t have to worry about who would look after my son, which was something. The next step was to call his school but I was running really late now so I decided I would do that on the walk to work. Five minutes down the road though I went to take out my phone and noticed it wasn’t in my bag. Wasn’t in my jacket either. I had forgotten it.

I dashed back to get it and ran up and down the house looking for it before I noticed it under a box of cereal. Don’t even ask me how it got there.

It’s like the saying goes, it never rains but it pours.

I had great notions of having enough time this morning to grab breakfast and you know wear non-stained clothing but what would be the adventure in that?

Nop, the universe decided it is my destiny to always remain the hot mess mum.

Well…somebody’s got to do it.
