School holiday dates for 2024- when is the Easter midterm?

Kat O'Connor

The Easter break will be here before you know it

The kids have just returned to school after the St. Patrick’s Day long weekend, but the Easter break is just around the corner.

The Easter midterm is one of the longest breaks Irish pupils can look forward to in the school year.

Many families will head away for the extended break. Others will take the time to switch off from their studies and to spend quality time together.

No matter what your plans, the Easter break is one of the highlights of the school year.

The weather is slowly getting better, we’ve got plenty of time off, and we can eat chocolate for breakfast.

What’s not to love?

This year, Easter will fall earlier than usual on March 31st which means school will close this Friday.

According to the Department of Education, schools will close a week before Easter on Friday, March 22nd.

Schools will re-open on Monday, April 8th, 2024.

“All schools close on Friday, 22 March 2024, which is the final day of the school term, unless changes are needed to make up for time lost due to unforeseen school closures. If a school needs to make up such time, it can shorten the Easter break by staying open, up to and including Wednesday, 27 March 2024,” the official notice reads.

Will the weather improve for the Easter midterm?

With just days to go until the Easter break, Met Éireann has confirmed rainy conditions for the first week of the break.

According to Met Éireann’s extended forecast, the first week of the Easter break will be rainier than usual, but temperatures will remain around average.

For the second week of midterm, temperatures are expected to be above average with rainfall also predicted.

We may need to keep the raincoats and umbrellas on standby for the midterm but we cannot wait for it regardless of the poor weather.
