As exciting as the back to school period is, it can also be a stressful time for parents, particularly where money is concerned.

See if you're eligible for help with school costs

Depending on your family's financial situation, you may be able to get help with school costs through a number of government initiatives. For instance, parents of children in primary and special schools no longer have to pay for schoolbooks, workbooks and copy books. These are now provided on loan through the Free Primary Schoolbooks scheme. Additionally, some families may be able to avail of financial help through the Back To School Clothing and Footwear Allowance.

Opting to source uniforms second-hand isn't just kind to the planet, but it's kind to your wallet as well. See if parents in the school are willing to sell uniforms their children have outgrown on to you. Sell on the items that no longer fit your children to make a few bob as well.
