The Bad Mother: A film that shows the comical side of balancing a family

Sive O'Brien

Trying to find the funny side of issues like childcare and work (when you’re a parent) isn’t easy, but that’s what this film (which isn’t yet a film) has set out to achieve.

The Bad Mother is Written by and starring Sarah Kapoor – fimmaker and co-owner of Pollinator Films, which is asking people to help finish the movie by donating to its kickstarter campaign by May 10.

Now in production, the feature-length comedy follows Tara, a woman in her 30s who is struggling with her role as a stay at home mum after leaving a “rewarding power career” to raise her children. When her five-year-old son accidentally shares a scathing attack she writes about her husband’s evil workplace, Tara becomes an instant celebrity to other women in the same boat. But as she’s thrust into the spotlight, the scrutiny is more intense than she bargained for, and she is forced to face her demons, or wither away.

We reckon it’s one of those films that will make you feel better about parenting, whilst also tackling some weighty subjects. Let’s hope it gets released. For now though, there’s the clip to enjoy.
