Why this famous mum is more sound than you might think

Sive O'Brien

Victoria Beckham is probably the kind of mum in the playground that most of us would avoid talking to. Let’s face it, she looks way too groomed to be able to relate to (or care about) the kind of ridiculous stuff that happens to most ‘normal’ mums every day.

But it turns out she might be more sound than we might think, after the mum of four revealed some pretty regular stuff about Beckham family life in a recent Vogue Australia interview.

The fashion designer (and former Spice Girl) insists that she does “do normal things” like running out to the shops to get things for her kids. “I like doing those kinds of things. That’s how our entire weekends are taken up, really.

“I think a lot of people probably don’t even notice me. I’ll dash around Marks & Spencer in my flat shoes, head down, with a shopping basket … Occasionally, at the checkout, a cashier will say, ‘You look just like Victoria Beckham!'”

Victoria revealed that family life doesn’t involve nannies, and she is a hands-on mum. “I’m always home before the kids have to be bathed and have to do homework and go to bed.”

She also admitted her children occasionally test her patience and have no appreciation for her former fame. “Sometimes when the kids are driving me crazy, I say to them, ‘Mummy was a pop star once.’ I go, ‘People wanted to hang out with Mummy! Mummy was somewhat cool!'”

“When I’m screaming at them to do their homework or clean their teeth or get to bed. So much has changed …”

Victoria is horrified, however, at the suggestion of doing a Kardashian-style reality show with her family. “No. No! I wouldn’t do it.”

She explains, “It’s not that I’m trying to live a normal life, it’s just that I have a very different life. What I do less of now is go to the places where I guess most people would go to be seen.”

Generally though, Victoria says her family are content to spend their weekends doing regular stuff together. “Really, we’re much more normal than people think.”

The Beckhams might prefer to keep out of the limelight as much as possible, but they do share glimpses of their life on social media. Like the below picture that Victoria and David’s eldest child, Brooklyn, posted on Instagram, along with the caption, “Not 2 posh 2 push,” which was probably a dig at his mum’s past life.

We love this sweet picture that David shared a few days ago, showing him at a doll’s tea party with his daughter, Harper. Too cute.

And finally, here’s one of the whole clan.

Happy anniversary, I love u so much x I’m so proud of our beautiful family x
