This mum's sweet and funny poem will remind you of all the best bits of being a parent this Mother's Day
"You’re my no 1, my champion, always the best"
Emma Keating is a YouTuber and Instagrammer from Birmingham who goes by @brummymummyof2. She's mum to two kids, aged seven and nine. This month she released Will I Ever Pee Alone Again?, a book of poetry that spans every aspect of parenting.
Covering different periods of her family life, from her pregnancy through to schooldays, many of the poems in the book are absolutely hilarious. You wouldn't think that there's anything remotely poetic about potty training or toddler tantrums, but Emma found inspiration in the most unlikely places along her parenting journey.
Other poems in the collection are more sentimental and heart-swelling – reminding us of all of the beautiful little moments that happen as children grown and learn, and of the depth of love that every parent feels towards their brood.
Below, Emma shares one such poem from the book ahead of Mother's Day, to remind us all how wonderful a journey parenting is. Needless to say, the book itself would make a wonderful gift this March 22 – it's available in hardback and as an e-book.
You always make me so very proud
When you crapped in a potty I cheered aloud
You once played a sheep in the nativity
I couldn’t believe you were made by me
I see you in sports day coming in last
I cheer and don’t care that you don’t run fast
You read me a story and I stare in glee
I gasp when you know the answer to 2 x 3
It doesn’t matter if you don’t come in first
If the painting you did in school is the worst
So long as you try your hardest that’s all I request
You’re my no 1, my champion, always the best.
