“If there’s any message I want people to take from this book, it is hope that, even in the hardest of times, life is worth living, one precious moment at a time.”

As inspirational quotes go, it’s a hard-hitting one – made all the more impactful by the fact that it was Vicky Phelan who spoke those words.

Cancer sufferer, health campaigner, academic, sister, daughter, wife and mother, Vicky has become a household name as a women’s health activist. Now, you have the opportunity to hear her talk at one of three special live events happening this month.

Prepare to be moved.

On September 12, Vicky will release her moving memoir, Overcoming. Published by Hachette Ireland, the book charts Vicky’s cancer battle and historic legal action against the HSE. It also delves into other significant events in her life – from a life-threatening accident in early adulthood, to a battle with post natal depression, and the horrific accident that befell her young daughter.

You can hear more about Vicky Phelan’s remarkable story in person at a series of live events presented by Eason and proudly supported by HerFamily.

The book tour will begin on September 15 at Clontarf Castle in Dublin, where Vicky will be in conversation with broadcaster Mary Kennedy.

On the day, they will discuss why Vicky felt compelled to stand up and speak out after her court case, why she felt the need be so brutally honest in telling every aspect of her story and how it feels to be looked upon as an inspiration by the women of Ireland.

Spoiler: HerFamily has had an advance read of Vicky’s book and tissues will be most definitely be needed.

The event takes place at 2.30pm. Tickets cost €20 and include a signed copy of Vicky Phelan’s memoir, and  are available by clicking here. Vicky will also be speaking in Cork on September 22 and Limerick on September 29.

Overcoming will be published by Hachette Ireland on September 12 at €14.99.
