A toddler who lost both feet at birth gets the most heartwarming gift

Lt. Dan has found his forever home

Sive O'Brien

Three-year-old Sapphyre Johnson was born with a birth defect that meant her feet had to be amputated. On Monday, she was given a nine-week-old puppy who was born with just one front paw.

The German Shepherd, named Lt. Dan after the Forrest Gump character who lost both legs, found his forever home and new best friend after his owner, Karen Riddle, knew he had a special purpose.

According to GreenvilleOnline, she began looking around for his perfect owner so called Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Chicago who put her in touch with the Johnson family. When Sapphyre saw the photo of Lt. Dan she “immediately fell in love with him,” said her mum. When she first met him, Sapphyre said, “That’s my puppy. He’s just like me.”

Watch for yourself the moment they meet.
