10 fabulous third-trimester buys that will keep your spirits up (almost there, mama!)

Trine Jensen-Burke

Yeah! Two trimesters down, and only one to go!

And before you know it, you will be holding your baby in your arms and all life as you know it will forever be different. (Better, louder, funner, crazier etc.)

The thing is, the third trimester is most definitively a little tougher than the second one (but you’re on the homestretch!). Many expectant mamas experience more pelvic pressure, aches and pains (remember, there is a nearly full-sized baby inside you!), heartburn, Braxton-Hicks and just that general feeling of not being able to bend down/get up/sit in a way where your ribs aren’t being kicked or poked by tiny fists and feet.

But just like with most things, we think a little bit of shopping will go a long way to ensure that you breeze through these last few weeks

1. Maternity Dress from Hatch Collection

If you are pregnant (or even thinking of having a baby) and have yet to be be introduced to Hatch Collection – you’re WELCOME.

We would gladly wear every single item from this awesome label, but if we had to pick one thing right now, this beautiful long kaftan dress would be it.

2. Aveda Stress-Fix Body Creme

Aveda Stress-Fix Body Creme is a luxurious, ultra-rich all-over moisturiser, which smells beautifully of lavender to help relieves any feelings of stress – while also drenching and protecting your skin with intense hydrators that work their magic for a full 24 hours.

3. BKR Water Bottle

It’s super important to stay hydrated when you are pregnant, and we find it is always that little bit easier to remember to drink enough water if you have your own water bottle with you when out and about. And sure you can pick up any old water bottle, really, but we are loving these really stylish ones by BKR (as in ‘beaker’, geddit?), which are made from glass (so totally BPA- and phthalate-free,) and covered with a colourful silicone layer.

Warning: You will want one in every colour!

4. Yogi Mother To Be Tea

According to Yogic wisdom, there is no greater gift to a child than a calm, self-nurtured and happy expectant mother.

Amen, says we. And to feel super-chilled during these last few weeks, you should swap your regular tea for this lovely pregnancy one from Yogi, an organic herbal blend that includes raspberry leaf (traditionally used for centuries by midwives and Western herbalists to support female system), refreshing spearmint, peppermint and fennel.

Available from well-stocked health food stores.

6. Nike Flyknit

We know all too well how these last few weeks can be a killer when it comes to being on your feet or having to walk any bit of a distance. So swap your heels (or any kind of uncomfortable footwear, really) for a pair of Nike Flyknits – that not only are the most comfortable runners you will ever wear, but that also look so cool with pretty much whatever you are wearing.

Bonus: These will also come in handy after baby arrives, and you find yourself out and about pushing a buggy.

7. Doomoo Nursing Pillow

Not only will this gorgeous pillow come in super-handy after baby arrives, it is also ideal for use during pregnancy due to its shape, flexibility and softness.

Just don’t blame us if you actually never want to get out of bed again!

8. When One Is Expecting – A Posh Person’s Guide To Pregnancy And Parenting

You need a few laughs to get you through those last few weeks of pregnancy, and this book will tick all the boxes, trust me. From the brains behind the hilarious Twitter handle @Pippatips, you will be given handy advice like:

“It is advised that you do not eat sushi, blue cheeses, air-cured meats and pâté. This makes it very difficult to shop at Waitrose.”

Or:

“Morning sickness can be avoided altogether by sleeping until the afternoon.”

And if not for yourself, we think this book is the perfect gift for a just-pregnant pal.

9. Exercise Ball

Exercising with a fitness ball during pregnancy is said to help expectant mamas maintain stability and balance as their belly grows, reducing things like back pain, help ease labour pain, shorten the first stages of labour and even making sure you feel less anxious.

Worth a shot!

10. Cracked Nut Raw Nutrition Balls

Being in your third trimester means you really should never leave the house without a little snack that will give you that all-important energy boost when you suddenly feel shattered – or when your blood sugar levels drop and you start to feel narky.

We love these energy balls from Dublin’s Cracked Nut cafe. Not only do they taste really good, they are also actually good for you. (Not that we will judge you for also scoffing a Kit Kat, you are growing a human, for crying out loud!)
