It’s a pretty unique scenario we gotta admit: the world being on baby-watch, waiting for the arrival of a brand-new, British royal.
Yes, Catherine Duchess Of Cambridge is currently in labour, a statement from Kensington Palace confirmed on Monday.
“Her Royal Highness The Duchess Of Cambridge was admitted to St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London earlier this morning in the early stages of labour.
“The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital with The Duke Of Cambridge.”

1) The medical team has been rallied
Three midwives have been on-call around the clock in recent weeks – along with two dozen doctors. Now that Kate is in labour, her medical team have dropped everything to get to her bedside.
2) Family are on stand-by
Prince Charles and the Duchess Of Cornwall, William’s father and stepmother, and Catherine’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, will be ready to visit their newest grandchild as soon as they get the nod. Indeed, following the births of both Prince George and Princess Charlotte the Middletons trumped their royal counterparts to be the first to be allowed access to Kate’s room.
3) The announcement is being prepared
Kensington Palace will confirm the arrival and gender of the child via social media. As per tradition, an easel will furthermore be erected outside Buckingham Palace with a handwritten bulletin. The name will be unveiled in around two or three days’ time.
4) Gun salate
When the royal baby is born, salutes are fired from the Tower Of London, and from either Hyde Park or Green Park.
5) Bonding-time
Despite the incredible team of doctors and facilities available to Wills and Kate at St Mary’s, the couple will understandably want to bond with their newborn. Hence, the royals have a dedicated hour put aside following the birth during which they won’t be bothered by medical staff, assistants, press requests, or Palace aides.
6) Kate’s beauty team is go
Considering she has to face the public – as well as millions watching around the world – in the hours after giving birth, we wouldn’t begrudge Kate a decent hairdresser and a bit of makeup; her beauty squad are currently also on stand-by in order to get her camera-ready.
7) The diary is clear
William and Kate have been really busy with public appearances in recent weeks – meaning that their diaries are largely clear for the next month, allowing them to spend valuable time with their three children.
