Influencer sparks debate with unusual baby name choice

Well, we think the name is adorable!

Influencer Poppy Hollins has stirred up controversy after revealing the unique name she and her husband, Jay, have chosen for their beautiful newborn son.

The couple, already parents to two daughters, shared their decision in a recent YouTube video, sparking a mixed reaction from followers.

In the video, Poppy said she was hesitant about the name choice, saying, “No, we’re not 100%!” However, Jay encouraged her to share it with their audience, saying, “Oh, babe, come on, it pretty much is, innit? I like it.”

After a brief countdown, the couple revealed the name: “Vinnie J.”

Poppy explained that she wanted the name Vinnie, while Jay had hoped to name their son after himself. They eventually settled on a double-barrelled option that combined both preferences.

Jay affectionately referred to their son as “Little VJ!” while Poppy joked, “I feel like he’ll be a rapper or something when he’s older. VJ!”

The announcement quickly generated lots of reactions on social media, particularly after the clip was shared on TikTok.

Many commenters couldn’t help but make a connection between the name “VJ” and a less flattering association. “Vay jay jay,” one person quipped, while another laughed, “Literally the first thing that came to my mind.”

A third commenter added, “Instantly thought of this,” echoing a sentiment shared by many others who joked about the unintended connotations of the initials.

However, not everyone was critical of the name choice. Some viewers expressed their love for the couple’s decision.

“My nephew is called Vinnie, it’s a lovely name,” one person commented. Another added: “Ahhh I have a Vinnie James – great choice!”

While Vinnie is commonly used as a nickname for Vincent, the name Vincent originates from the Latin verb “vincere,” which means “to conquer.”

It also derives from the Latin name “Vincentius,” translating to “conqueror” or “winner.”
