‘My aunt chose to name her baby after a disease rather than the Irish names I suggested’

“She insists that it’s a common name, but it is not.”

A girl has taken to Reddit to share her relative’s unusual choice of name for her new baby.

The 15-year-old poster explained that her family was of Irish and Armenian descent, and that she suggested some Irish names to her aunt.

“I think Caoimhe, Nora, Quinn, Arineh, or Adrine may work. All of those names tie into our Armenian-Irish heritage and they sound nice,” she recalled telling her aunt.

However, the 33-year-old aunt replied by dismissing those names.

She then came up with her own suggestion: “How about.. Glutenia? It’s a grandma name. I don’t want my kid to grow up being called something ridiculous, so Glutenia is good.”

The OP asked the social media site whether Glutenia was a common name, and said she needed to “prove a point” to her aunt.

Users of the site took to the replies section to share their thoughts on the unusual suggestion of name.

“This is going to be so sad if that child ends up with celiac,” one person wrote.

“No, not a name. It’s disease of gluten intolerance,” a second put.

Another joked: “Why not call her Hypertension or Arachnophobia? Celiac is good too.”

“You’re joking right? If legit, tell your aunt to look up glutenia: it’s just celiac disease searches,” a fourth wrote. “Also just help her look for names that have fell out of fashion from the past like Mildred or Geraldine.”
