Celebrities who have spoken about their struggles to conceive

Millions of people around the world have problems conceiving and throughout the years many celebrities have been outspoken about their struggles with failed IVF attempts and miscarriages.

In the hope of encouraging other women to keep on trying these celebrities have spoken about their experiences and their disappointments.

Brooke Shields

Prior to her daughter Rowan’s birth in 2003, Shields underwent six failed rounds of IVF and a suffered a miscarriage. The actress and her husband Chris Henchy were quite public about their struggle to conceive. In 2006, to the couple’s surprise Brooke naturally fell pregnant with her second child Grier. The former model spoke about her battles with Post Partum Depression and IVF in her 2005 book Down Came The Rain.

Celine Dion

The Because You Loved Me singer and her husband René Angélil struggled to conceive their first son René-Charles but after many failed attempts at IVF the pair welcomed their bundle of joy into the world in 2001. Eight years later the couple introduced twins Nelson and Eddy to the world after seven further failed IFV attempts.

Marcia Cross

The Desperate Housewives star has often spoken about her struggles with infertility and is believed to have conceived her twin girls Eden and Savannah through In-Vitro Fertilisation. Prior to the birth of her twins the actress spoke about her desire to adopt if she and her husband were unable to conceive.

Robert De Niro

The Oscar Winning actor conceived his newest addition through a surrogate mother in 2011. The sixty-eight-year-old actor and his wife Grace also have a fourteen-year-old son named Elliot. A surrogate mother also carried De Niro’s sixteen-year-old twin boys who he had with ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith. The actor has two other children from his marriage to Diahnne Abbott which ended in the late eighties.
