Derval O'Rourke is feeling good after her recent pregnancy announcement

The former sprint hurdles athlete revealed she is pregnant again after having a miscarriage earlier in the year.

Derval O’Rourke is already a mother to three-year-old, Daphne and now she has announced she is expecting a second child with husband, Peter O’Leary.

The three-time Olympian is due next spring and is overjoyed by the news of her pregnancy. She took to Instagram at the end of last month to make the announcement:

Derval said that she felt “out of practice” as it has been three years since she fell pregnant with her first child and told her followers “all help welcome”.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Derval has recently revealed that she suffered a miscarriage prior to this pregnancy.

“I had a miscarriage back in May and I found it really difficult. It feels disingenuous to this pregnancy not to mention that, which might seem strange, but that’s how it is. I didn’t tell anyone for a long time because I was worried. I was a bit anxious before this, but now I feel good after being with the doctor at 18 weeks.”

She credited Kathryn Thomas, who suffered two miscarriages before becoming pregnant with baby Ellie, for highlighting the harrowing issue.

Thankfully, Derval is so far experiencing a healthy pregnancy this time around and is maintaining her fitness.

The thirty-seven-year-old who is a coach on RTE’s hit show, Ireland’s Fittest Family is an advocate of mental and physical health as well as girls reaching their potential.

Congratulations to Derval and we wish her well for the rest of her pregnancy.
