When I was pregnant, I remember looking at the bucket of coal next to our fire and wondering when I would start feeling the need to help myself to a lump or two.
Thankfully, that day never came. In fact, I don’t recall having any cravings. Not any really weird ones anyway. I definitely craved and ate my own body weight in chocolate on a regular basis, but I’m not sure you can strictly class that as a pregnancy craving if you were already addicted to the stuff before having a baby. Not to mention still addicted 20 months after.
If, unlike me, you did hanker after any bizarre food combos, a cool site called Eating for Two: The Pregnancy Cravings Cookbook will help you relive those tasty times. Or, if you’re currently expecting and looking for weird food inspo, this is the place to go.
The online cookbook has been created by Juarez Rodrigues and Vicky Jacob-Ebbinghaus who prepare the ‘recipes’ (or food cravings) shared by pregnant women, before sampling and photographing them to put up on the site with a rating (yes, really).
“All the recipes we feature are real, genuine cravings eaten by a real, genuine pregnant person,” say the pair on the site.
While you probably won’t be rushing off to make any of the recipes (unless Burnt Matches and Medley of Soaps sound like your kind of thing), the awesome photos are definitely worth a look. Here are some of our favourites from the site…
Oreo toothpaste
Medley of soaps
Sausage with jam
