The new growth charts were specially designed for twins rather than single births.

The first set of twins to be monitored in the womb using a new type of growth chart have been born healthy.

Mala Vast Dhuri gave birth to identical boys Kiaan and Kush at the end of July, according to The Mirror.

The pair weighed in at 2kg and 2.1kg respectively and were delivered via Caesarean section at St George’s Hospital in London.

New mum Mala said she was “over the moon” to welcome her new arrivals.

The babies’ development was tracked using new growth charts that were specially designed for twins so they could be compared with other twins rather than what is normal for singles.

Dr Asma Khalil, consultant obstetrician at the London hospital, believes the new growth charts will save lives.

“We know twins are smaller than singles so using these old charts meant doctors had to use their own judgement,” he said.

“This resulted in an ‘over-diagnosis’ of growth problems.”
