When you’re expecting, you might experience morning sickness

The sickness can be bad – like the feeling of not being able to do anything bad – but even when it’s mild, that nauseous feeling just is not fun.

Though a lot of the time it sticks around for the first 12 weeks, there’s a chance it can hang around for your whole pregnancy.

If you’re looking for a way to ease your symptoms here are five natural remedies to try out.

Ginger

Often used in traditional Chinese medicine, this root can help to ease tummy troubles.

You can drink ginger ale or tea, eat it in cookies and biscuits or try sucking on a ginger lollipop.

Talk to your prenatal health care provider about how much ginger is safe for you; it may not be advised for some pregnant people.

Sour things

Though it may sound counterintuitive, when you eat something it can help your tummy.

According to OB-GYN and author, Michele Hakakha, sour snacks can help to ease any queasy feelings.

“Try sucking on sour candy, sipping lemon water, or even just sniffing something sour,” she said to Parents.

“I had one patient who carried around a lemon and scratched the peel and smelled it to make her feel better.”

Mint

Be it mint tea or chewing gum, it can help to reveal those feelings of nausea.

On top of this, if there’s any smell that makes your stomach do flips, mint can help mask the scent.

If you’re feeling particularly rough, think about keeping a small bottle of peppermint essential oil to sniff in emergencies.

Carbohydrate-rich foods

Foods loaded with carbohydrates like toast, crackers and cereal are easy to keep down and digest.

It’s recommended you follow this type of food with a source of protein because “not eating enough protein, especially with your carbohydrates, could cause blood sugar spikes, leading to increased nausea.”

Light exercise

Staying physically active is important during pregnancy and may reduce syptoms of morning sickness.

It can also help with other pregnancy symptoms like constipation and achiness.

Check-in with your healthcare provider before starting any new activity and keep it light.
