You find out you’re pregnant – there are feelings of excitement and fear and hope and delight pulsing through you all at once.
And then you tell the grandparents-to-be.
Cue screaming, hugs, tears, jumping up and down and endless phone calls to everyone they know.
A new grandchild is always lovely for a family but as many of us will know, sometimes granny and grandad can be a little overbearing.
Just ask Kate Hudson.
She and mum Goldie Hawn are very close but Kate’s patience was put to the test with the births of her last two children.
Appearing on Ellen with Kate, Goldie said that she was in the delivery room with Kate when she had son Bingham, now seven.
“Last time it happened, I ate too many Doritos in front of you, brought you a lotus, asked you to smell it—which is the worst thing you can do to a pregnant person—and then you asked me to please put down my pizza,” the veteran star laughed.
Goldie then revealed that she got in the way even more when Kate had her daughter Rani back in September.
She couldn’t help but get close at a very crucial moment, looking over his shoulder.
“I see the head, and I’m going, ‘Oh! There’s the head!’
“Then it went back, and (the doctor) said, ‘Goldie, if you get any closer, you’re going to fall in!’ So I took my cue. I didn’t get much closer.”
We know what we’d do if someone got that close to us at that moment.
