Helen George has said that she had an elective caesarean because of Call the Midwife.

The new mum recently revealed that the show had taught her enough about the birthing process that she decided she didn’t want to have a natural one herself.

Speaking to the Radio Times, she said:

“I had to deliver her early, but even without that, I would have gone for an elective caesarean because of what I’d learned on Call the Midwife.

“I’ve experienced natural childbirth through the legs of many an actress and I didn’t want to do it myself.”

The actress explained that she wasn’t “against” natural birth at all and that she is “pro whatever you feel is right for you.”

George welcomed baby Wren last year.

Her daughter arrived so early that she was able to attend her own baby shower.

In the past, the Call the Midwife star has been accused of being “too posh to posh.”

She confirmed that this was untrue, stating that elective caesareans are not “the easy way out.”

She said:

“Some people may not understand why I elected to have a C-section, but it was right for me at the time.

“It’s not because I’m ‘too posh to push’, it’s about what I think my body is capable of. I’m not good with pain, I faint when I stub my toe.

“Not that a C-section is the easy way out. It’s a major operation.”

Baby Wren is George’s first child with partner, Jack Ashton.
