How a sun holiday could boost your chances of getting pregnant

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Trying for baby? A sun holiday could help speed up the process significantly, according to scientists.

Apparently, increasing your sun exposure one month before you conceive can boost your chances of becoming pregnant by up to one third.

Researcher Dr. Frank Vandekerckhove of the University Hospital Ghent studied the IVF results of more than 6,000 women, comparing the treatment dates with the weather at the time of conception and four weeks earlier.

Dry weather and high temperatures increased the odds of conceiving by 35 per cent.

So how does it work? Well, Dr Vandekerckhove suggests that a sunshine-induced Vitamin D boost might help a woman’s eggs mature, which means that the effects are likely to be the same for women hoping to get pregnant naturally.
