Love baking? Banana bread has been revealed as great for expectant mums

Melissa Carton

Lately it seems like everyone is baking banana bread.

Any time I go on social media another one of my friends has a photo of their latest attempt at making banana bread, and I really think I’m going to have to give it a bash soon.

If you’re pregnant it’s an even better idea for you to get stuck into baking banana bread (or getting someone you know to make some) as it’s been proven as a great snack for expectant mums.

Humble as it may seem, but banana bread is actually a very enriching snack for mums-to-be, thanks to its high levels of vitamin B12.

Both banana skins and eggs contain this essential nutrient which plays a key role in activating folate in the body.

Folate is used by the body to maintain and repair blood vessels and so is particularly important in periods of growth such as pregnancy.

I wish I’d known how good banana bread was during pregnancy when I was pregnant as I wouldn’t have stopped making it.

I absolutely love banana bread but usually don’t get a chance to make any as the kids always eat the bananas we have before they get over ripe.

Might just have to buy extra at my next shopping trip and hide them away.
