Mindy Kaling has just confirmed the gender of her baby

Mindy Kaling has finally confirmed the gender of her baby, and she's having a girl!

The actress appeared on Ellen today and quietly made the reveal. As shooting finishes up on the final season of her show The Mindy Project, she explained how she's grown up since it began in 2012. "When I started the show, I literally found out that the show got green-lit the same day that my mother passed away," she told Ellen de Generes. "And my mother, who was an OB-GYN — I play an OB-GYN on the show — she passed away within the same hour that I found out that the show had been green-lit. So that was such a strange thing. "And then now the show's ending when I found out that I was pregnant with my own daughter; it felt like the show kind of helped me and trained me to grow up and become a mom and it's really meaningful to me." Mindy also admitted that she's been craving jam donuts since becoming pregnant and Ellen promptly presented her with the biggest donut we've ever seen.

The actress seems to be warming up to talking about her pregnancy, despite originally trying to keep it a secret. It was Oprah Winfrey, of all people, who spilled the beans. She and Mindy star together in upcoming film A Wrinkle In Time and Oprah accidentally revealed the news to People magazine. Mindy took it pretty well, though. She told Ellen: "If anyone is going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person. "You can’t complain that much about it. And you also can’t be like, 'Hey, Oprah, zip it' — because she’s almost like a religious figure."

Sadly, that seems to be all we're getting as Mindy didn't go as far as to share who she's expecting the baby with. We also can't be sure of exactly when she's due but given the fact that Oprah said she was five months along in August, she could give birth in December.
