This mum holding her premie for the first time will make you bawl

"It was the best feeling in the world."

Holding your baby for the first time is always an emotional moment but having to wait before even being able to touch him makes it even more special.

This mum was unable to hold her son until he was four days old as he was born so prematurely.

To his mum’s surprise, he had to be delivered at 26 weeks.

“They have no idea why I had him early, I’m a fairly healthy person, never missed taking my prenatal vitamins, completely cut out caffeine and exercised kind of regularly,” she wrote in a post on the Love What Matters page on Facebook.

“He was only 860g (less than two pounds) at birth.

“I just wanted a normal pregnancy, a normal birth, I wanted to be able to hold my baby right away, feed him and snuggle him.”

She was overwhelmed when she finally took him into her arms.

“Four days after birth, I held my baby for the first time, it was the best feeling in the world to finally be able to hold him in my arms.

The baby boy, Grayson, spent almost three months in intensive care. He’s now six months old and flying.

“He’s happy, healthy and now I get to snuggle him whenever I want. It’s scary to think one in ten babies is born premature.”

She shared her best wishes with other new mums and dads of premature babies.

“I just want other parents who are going through this to know it’s hard, it’s scary but you’re stronger than you think you are, your baby is a fighter and you’re not alone.

“I hope that someday soon you get to bring your baby home, too.”
