Mum-of-three says that her children ‘hate’ her for being her sister’s surrogate

A mum-of-three who is acting as a surrogate for her sister has said that her children "hate" her as she carrying a baby that is not their sibling.

The woman took to the parenting forum on Reddit to ask for advice on how to make her children less angry with her. According to The Sun, she said that her sister has suffered a prolapsed uterus after the birth of her first child. She had to have prolapse surgery to remove her womb afterwards, which meant that she couldn't have any more children. The mum said that her sister was left "devastated" by the news, and fell into a depression. A year afterwards, the woman offered to carry baby for her sister - and told how her sibling had been "thrilled with the idea and fully on board with it". The mum-of-three said that her husband hadn't been so keen on the idea at first, although he said that "if it's what [she] wanted to do then so be it". Her three children, however, have taken an issue with the surrogacy. She said that the kids - who are  9, 11 and 13 - are all "really upset". The woman explained:

"My children are all really upset at the fact that I am doing this. I can't understand why. "They are angry with me because it's not my baby or their brother/sister."

Many of the people commenting sympathised with the mum. One person wrote:

"Part of growing up has to do with finding out that sometimes we don't get everything we want. "Mum is doing a good deed for her sister and what means a small sacrifice for the kids. Time to learn that."

Someone else added:

"Do they understand it? Maybe its upsetting because you will not be keeping the baby? Or maybe they feel betrayed or jealousy in some way on behalf of their dad. A family councillor might help."

Another person commented:

"Might be a good time to teach them about body autonomy and independence.

"You are their mom and they feel entitled to you. This isn't wrong but maybe explain that you will love them unconditionally and you are taking every step possible to have a safe pregnancy but ultimately it's your body and you decided to use it to help your sister who you love very much as well."
