Mum-to-be runs the Boston Marathon just 6 weeks before her due date

She even got a very respectable finish time

Another lifetime ago (before I became a parent), I used to run. Despite my best intentions to continue not only during pregnancy but also when the baby got here, running became a thing of the past once I hit the second trimester.

But there are many mums who manage to continue pounding the pavements throughout pregnancy. Like 35-year-old Amy Keil who just ran the Boston Marathon at 34 weeks pregnant.

The mum-to-be and lifelong runner had qualified for the race before she found out she was expecting. When she realised how far along she would be for the marathon, she continued to train, with the blessing of her doctor.

Amy told Runner’s World, “My doctor was fairly cool with it since I’ve always been a runner.

“She said at the beginning, ‘Okay, we’ll have to see how it goes.'”

After getting the go-ahead to run just five days before the race, Amy finished in a very respectable and impressive four hours and 19 minutes, wearing a pink shirt with handmade lettering that read, “Coming in 6 weeks!”

Afterwards, she said that her strategy was to feel strong and make sure the baby was OK. Running a marathon in the last trimester of pregnancy is probably the last thing you would expect a woman to do. We wonder if she’ll find childbirth a walk in the park, in comparison.
