Paloma Faith shares realities of motherhood as she battles breast engorgement
Earlier this week musician Paloma Faith announced that she had given birth to her second child after long battle with IVF.
Faith said in her announcement that her newborn, whom she also revealed is a girl, could not be more loved or wanted.
Even during her announcement post she spoke about how sore her nipples are and I later saw her on Instagram doing the cabbage trick and as someone who breastfed I can totally relate.
In the post Faith revealed that her breast are in fact engorged and that she is in incredible pain.
In the post the Picking Up The Pieces singer says;
"Day 3 and my milk has come in.....
I’ve been diagnosed with acute engorgement. This means I have too much milk and the baby isn’t big or strong enough to drain it and get it out.
It’s painful. The boobs are rock hard. I’m trying massage while feeding, it hurts so much like a deep tissue massage and not much is helping.
Hot showers/massage/hand expressing and poor baby is really over it with the exhausting hard work she needs to do to get the milk out of all those swollen blocked ducts.
I’ve been told it should settle. Let’s hope I don’t end up in a and e with it before that! This is some next level pain! Mum life is REALLLLLLL."
Breast engorgement is when your breasts get too full of milk which can leave them feeling hard and painful.
It can also lead to breastfeeding problems if not treated.
Breast engorgement can also happen when you decided to wean your child off breastmilk too.
There are different ways that you can relieve the pressure and pain, like using cabbage leaves, but the best thing to do is contact your midwife or lactation consultant.
